15th BWA State Membership Conference (March 28-29, 2026) Registration Flyer # 3

On October 4th, Conference Co-Chair, Claire Tamamoto shared the attached 15th BWA State Membership Conference Flyer #3.

The conference schedule is printed as well as info on Sunday’s Panel Presentation.  The link and QR code for the registration form are on the flyer.  On the second page is a short description of the six workshops that the conference will be offering.

If you want to book directly with the Ala Moana Hotel before you book your conference selections – go to  https://book.passkey.com/e/51110143.  The conference registration and hotel registration are on different websites to avoid confusion.

If you decide to make your hotel reservation at the same time as your conference registration, don’t forget to complete the conference registration form and SUBMIT your form.   You will receive a confirmation email after you press the button to submit your form.

Update on Student Exchange Program for 2025

The Student Exchange Program webpage has been updated to include the report from the 2025 Student Exchange Committee and reports from Lauren Kana Suzuki and Chad Tsuyoshi Okawa upon their return from their trip to Japan.

Go to the bottom of the page for Additional Student Exchange-related Resources to find the link for the 2025 committee report.  You will need to open up the Roster of Student Exchange Participants to see the 2025 students and to download the pdf for their reports.

Promotional Video on Joint Celebration Next Year

The upcoming 17th World Buddhist Women’s Convention will be hosted by Japan in Kyoto on May 11-12, 2023 in conjunction with a Joint Celebration commemorating the 850th birthday of Shinran Shonin in 2023 and the 800th anniversary of the establishment of the Jodo Shinshu teachings in 2024.  The celebration will begin March 2023, and BWA members and their guests can join a special May 10th service preceding the Convention.

A Promotional Video for the Joint Celebration is now available on the HHMH YouTube channel where you can also find a written summary on the video as well as a link to the Hongwanji International Center website which will contain information on the Joint Celebration.

14th BWA Hawaii State Membership Conference Changed to Virtual Only

Please join us when Maui United BWA hosts the State Conference on April 23-24, 2022.  The format will be virtual only, using Zoom, due to concerns about COVID and variants.  The theme is “Building Healthy Sanghas—Connecting with Others.”  Two keynote speakers will be featured:   Deidre Tegarden, Maui, “Connecting with Others” and Janet Umezu, California, “Diversity and Acceptance.”  The business meeting will be conducted by the Hawaii Federation of BWAs’ President in preparation for the 17th World Buddhist Women’s Convention to be held in Kyoto, Japan on May 11-12, 2023.

NOTE:  As of January 9, 2022, the Maui committee formally adopted a change in the format of the 2022 Membership Conference.  The conference will be in virtual format only, via Zoom.  The registration cost is $100 per person.  If you have not previously registered, please use the form above with a deadline of January 31, 2022.  If you have already registered, you do not need to do more.
