The Honpa Hongwanji Mission of Hawaii will celebrate Hawaii’s Triple Celebration on Saturday, September 7 – Sunday, September 8, 2024 at the Ala Moana Hotel (Honolulu). The three events include the 850th Anniversary of Shinran Shonin’s Birth, 800th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Jodo Shinshu Teaching and 135th Anniversary of the Honpa Hongwanji Mission of Hawaii. The theme is “Sharing the Joy of Nembutsu Together: Our Living Heart of Gratitude.” The program consists of religious services, Keynote Speaker (Rev. Dr. Takashi Miyaji), lunch, workshops, breakfast, panel discussion. Submit your registration form asap. Early Registration $250 by March 31; Late Registration $300 by July 31, 2024. ($200 subsidy per person for neighbor island participants). Room Reservation at Ala Moana Hotel is available until Aug. 6, 2024 (Kona Tower – $194 plus tax; Waikiki Tower – $224 plus tax; No resort fees. The State Lay Convention and Minister’s Spouses Groups are also joining at this event.
Triple Celebration Buddhist Education Series will be held online throughout the 2024 year, beginning January 13 from 10am – 11:30am with speaker Dr. David Matsumoto of the IBS in Berkeley, CA. He will address “What is Mahayana Buddhism?” and “What is Pure Land Buddhism.” The series will continue in February with two lectures, and then from March through August one session per month.
